ENGLISH CAMPAIGN 2012

SK Selama will launch its English Campaign 2012 during the Monday Weekly Assembly at 7.30 am on 26 March, 2012. The English Campaign is actually a whole year long campaign. However , March, April and May are the months the campaign is focused. The launching will be a simple ceremony which starts of with the prayers being read in English followed by the speech from the English Panel Head, Madam Oon Lay Wah and the official opening and launching speech of this campaign.The SK Selama Choral Speaking Team will make their first presentation to all to give them confidence and gain moral support from teachers and pupils.

At present, the English teachers are busy preparing for the coming Selama Zone English Carnival which will be held in SK Selama on Saturday, 7 April, 2012. SK Selama will be participating in all the 4 events; Story-Telling Competition( Level 2 ),Public Speaking Competition ( Level 2 ) , Action Song Competition ( Yr 3 pupils ) and Choral Speaking Competition (Level 2 - Yr 6 Gemilang pupils ). At the same time , 3 pupils are selected to represent the school in the Spelling Knowledge Discovery Competition which will be held in May.

For the school level competitions, the following events will be held:

1. Yr 1 - Reading Contest & Spelling Contest( individual events ) Singing of Children Songs ( group events )

2. Yr 2 - Short - Story Reading Contest & Spelling Contest ( individual events ) Action Song Contest ( group event )

3. Yr 3 - Story - Reading Contest& Spelling Contest( individual events ) Action Song Contest ( group event )

4. Yr 4 - Story - Telling Contest & Spelling Contest( individual events ) Jazz Chant Contest ( group event )

5. Yr 5 - Story- Telling Contest , Poem Recitation Contest & Spelling Contest ( individual events ) English Pop Song Contest ( group event )

6. Yr 6 - Story - Telling Contest, Public Speaking Contest & Spelling Contest ( individual events ) Grammar Quiz Contest ( group event )

1. The Best English Corners in the classrooms. 2. English Posters - motivational

Other Activities For English Teachers:

1. Paint and decorate the English Garden - murals on the walls, creative mobiles and wall charts. 2. Decorate and arrange materials neatly in the English Room.

Preparation of additional Teaching Aids and English materials- Choral Reading Cards in Baskets, story books in sets for each classroom, Story cards, Song & Poem cards, UPSR Format modules etc.

These contests will be held after recess or during the English periods. English teachers will fix the schedule soon. Pupils are encouraged to participate in the ativities planned for them.

In this way they can improve their English, gain confidence and get the opportunity to apply the language in a fun way.

The theme for the English Campaign 2012 is,"Have Fun Learning & Speaking Good English".
